The South Carolina House Calls Care Advantage

Four doctors pose against a white background
While writing articles about South Carolina House Calls (SCHC), I have had the privilege to interview many practitioners. Those conversations invariably turn toward the provider's experiences and beliefs about the care provided. One common thread is an overwhelming sense about the difference they make in people's lives—for example, some talk about their ability to reach an underserved population who otherwise have limited access to healthcare. Others point to the autonomy SCHC provides to practice at the top of their license and the proactive style of healthcare advocated versus the reactive model so prevalent in the industry.

Seven days on and seven days off work schedules are a benefit practitioners point to that allow a high level of flexibility in their personal lives. Each provider works with a track partner who handles their patient's on alternating weeks. The system is set up to provide a continuity of care for their patients and gives the practitioner peace of mind knowing they are covered during their downtime.

Practitioners love the team approach employed by SCHC that provides access to numerous specialists and resources for comprehensive patient care. Specialists in psychotherapy, cardiology, pharmaceuticals, diabetes and social work are readily available to support the general practitioner in the field. In addition, specialty tools like remote patient monitoring and Livi automated drug dispensing systems can further enhance the patient experience. Practitioners can address patient issues before they spiral out of control by seeing them more frequently with better monitoring.
