South Carolina Vaccination Progress

Doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
South Carolina House Calls (SCHC) encourages all eligible residents to get vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as practicable and continue social distancing and wearing masks in public. The good news is that gatherings with family and friends who have all been vaccinated can now be safely resumed without precautions.

A recorded question and answer session with Dr. Jane Kelly, Assistant State Epidemiologist, and local media members reveals some of the challenges still facing the state. According to Dr. Kelly, the state does not have a specific date and number goal, but she is hopeful that 70 to 80% of South Carolina residents will be fully vaccinated by June.

As of April 16, 2021, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) website, anyone 16 and older is now eligible to be vaccinated. Anyone unsure of where vaccinations are available can access a convenient vaccination locator, or if the internet is unavailable, people can call 1-866-365-8110.

The DHEC dashboard updated to reflect the most current vaccination statuses within the state show the following information: Total doses received by SC residents 2,588,191. Total residents who have completed vaccination, 1,071,113. Total residents who have received one Vaccine, 1,610,321. These numbers represent 39.2% of SC residents with at least one Vaccine and 26.1% of SC residents who have completed both vaccines.
